Rud Aero’s mission is to build the strongest and best aerobatic planes in the world. The result of this effort was the RA-2, an unlimited class aerobatic airplane, specifically designed for world class aerobatic pilot Sergei Boriak. The two seat tandem RA-2 exceeds the capabilities of all existing aerobatic aircraft. Its light weight carbon fiber airframe is the strongest in its class able to sustain +/- 13 Gs with a 2x safety factor. Equipped with a 315 horsepower Lycoming AEIO 540 engine, the RA-2’s top speed is 182 kts and sea level initial rate of climb is 3,482 ft/min. It was first flown in February 2013 by legendary combat pilot, test pilot and Reno Air Race champion Skip Holm. Skip waxed poetic in his evaluation of the aircraft.

The RA-2 is a built to order airplane for world class aerobatic pilots. As such, it is certified for exhibition. But it will soon be available in kit form for anyone interested in ultimate aerobatic performance.

For the would-be aerobatic pilot, Rud Aero offers a lighter aerobatic airplane called the RA-2L. Derived from the proven unlimited aerobatic RA-2 aircraft, the RA-2L two-seat tandem tail wheel aerobatic is designed for beginner to advanced aerobatics. It can be converted from the base four-cylinder engine to a six-cylinder power plant for even greater performance. The RA-2L offers a rugged and lightweight carbon fiber airframe designed to +/-8G with a 2x safety factor. Equipped with a Lycoming IO 360, the max speed is 169 kts with a sea level rate of climb of 2,158 ft./min. Its useful load is 700 lbs. The RA-2L will be available in kit form in early 2014.
